Jacek Sempolinski, member of the "Arsenal generation", continued colourist tradition in his almost abstract landscapes, executed with broad brushstrokes and suffused with light and colour. In the mid-1970s, he began a series of Passion canvases (Crucifixions, the Skull); these almost colourless, grey-blue compositions seem to bear traces of physical suffering and contain an exceptional eschatological message.
